Happy Russian Science Day! February 8 is Russian Science Day.

Date in 2019: .

Holiday Day Russian science has its own unique story. Traditions and congratulations to scientists will help prepare an original celebration.

People who devoted themselves to science have always strived to fulfill their noble goals. It was thanks to their works that the world saw many unique developments that made it possible to achieve modern heights of development in various fields.

And not least in the world’s collection of scientific developments are the works of Russian scientists. The professional holiday is dedicated to them, which is usually celebrated in early February - on the Day of Russian Science.

Stages of development of Russian science: who celebrates the holiday?

Russia has always been famous for its inquisitive minds and restless researchers. But learned men were elevated to the rank of scientific figures only under Peter I. It was by his decision that the Academy of Sciences was opened. The great reformer perfectly understood the importance of education and scientific thought in the development of the country.

Therefore, the first scientific institution was founded according to unique project, different from European schools and universities. The organization united the gymnasium and the university. Talented Russians could become employees and students of the Academy. Status in society and the presence of ranks and money did not affect the opportunity to become a student. Therefore, both the children of nobles and the offspring of commoners could enter the Academy.

For successful studies, students were awarded royal favor. Scientists served for the benefit of Russia and received good salaries for their work.

Centuries and rulers changed, but the Petrine Academy continued to operate. And even under the Soviets, when many of the achievements of Tsarist Russia were destroyed, the Academy continued its activities. And only in 1925 it changed its name to the USSR Academy of Sciences. With the collapse of the Union, the institution was given a new name, the Russian Academy of Sciences. In fact, the modern RAS is still the same Petrine Academy, which was revived in 1991 as a higher scientific institution.

The famous graduates of the Academy were truly talented people who glorified Russian science throughout the world. It is impossible not to mention the works of Mikhail Lomonosov, known for his multifaceted talents, and the works of Ivan Pavlov, a medical scientist who studies reflexes and their cause-and-effect relationships. The table is known to the whole world chemical elements Dmitry Mendeleev, and the basics of physics are still taught using Lev Landau’s textbooks. Konstantin Tsiolkovsky amazed the world with his space developments, and Igor Kurchatov went down in history as the “father” of nuclear technology.

Today, Russian scientists continue to work in the scientific field and have proven their worth in practice. After all, the lion's share of inventions of the last century belongs to them.

Therefore, mathematicians and physicists, chemists and geneticists, biotechnologists and astrophysicists, philosophers and literary scholars, historians and folklorists, as well as scientists from other fields raise their glasses in honor of Russian science. Postgraduate students and laboratory assistants, gifted students, research interns and support staff celebrate together with the scientists.

history of the holiday

The successes of scientists began to be celebrated for the first time in 1918. The holiday is associated with the publication by the leader of the proletariat V.I. Lenin's famous work, which reflected the essence of planning scientific and technical work. Publication took place from April 18 to April 25. This event formed the basis of the holiday, which was celebrated for a long time by all organizations associated with scientific activities, in April, on the third Sunday.

During the difficult times of the 90s, the holiday was simply forgotten. Science was simply forgotten amid the division of power, influence, and property. The common people and even the scientists themselves simply had nothing to live on, since world-famous institutions were closing and funding was being curtailed. Only a few research institutes were able to stay afloat after undergoing reorganization and becoming commercial.

The main symbol of Russian science, the Scientific Academy, was revived in the early 90s, but the holiday of science was remembered only towards the end of the millennium. By decree of Yeltsin, the President of Russia, the Day of Russian Science was established. Scientists' Day was celebrated for the first time on February 8, 2000.

The date of the holiday coincides with the founding day of the Petrine Academy of Sciences.

Is scientist a profession?

The importance of scientists' hard work is undeniable. But what pushes people to a life devoted to scientific development and research. After all, the work of these people is not always appreciated. And sometimes you have to make a lot of effort to get a grant or targeted funding for research.

The world of science is a special community consisting of gifted and extraordinary people. They live by their ideas and for the sake of that moment when insight comes. A person who is far from scientific ideas sometimes does not understand unfamiliar terms and expressions. But behind them lie future discoveries and breakthroughs in the economy.

The achievements of scientists affect the quality of life of people, the creation of new jobs, and the maintenance of the country's prestige. Therefore, in modern Russia Higher education is given priority attention. Are being created comfortable conditions for the work of young scientists, competitive areas are being promoted.

Since 2013, significant changes have begun, affecting both infrastructure and working conditions. The long-term reform program runs until 2020.

This made it possible to raise the prestige of scientists and attract young people to these fields. Today, in some areas, more than 50% of specialists are under 39 years of age.

IN research work Today, more than 700,000 specialists take part, of which 370,000 directly conduct research. Total number the organizations involved reached 3,600.

Congratulations to the scientists

Thousands of people today, February 8, will celebrate Science Day - an interesting and important holiday. We congratulate everyone involved in this direction. Congratulating you on your professional holiday, I would like to wish you new unique discoveries. Let your work improve people's lives, and maybe even make them a little happier.

Everything that was useful in life,

February 8 is an annual holiday for the Russian scientific community. On this day, it is customary to congratulate not only outstanding scientists and academicians, but also university teachers, researchers and ordinary students who decided to devote their lives to experiments and research. Despite all its importance, the holiday is not an official day off.

history of the holiday

In 1724, Emperor Peter I issued an order according to which a body similar to Western European academies should be established. His task would be the development of science in the state. On February 8, the Senate issued a corresponding decree. This is how the Academy of Sciences and Arts appeared, which was destined to become the progenitor of the modern Russian Academy of Sciences. The peculiarity of the institution was that the financial situation of the students was not of interest to its management.

Knowledge could be obtained not by those who had a lot of money, but by those who sought to connect their careers with scientific activity. The Academy changed names, but its goal remained the same over the centuries. In 1925 it was named the USSR Academy of Sciences. It is with this period in its existence that the most notable discoveries are associated: the emergence of a nuclear power plant, the launch of the first artificial satellite Earth, development of astronautics.

That's when Science Day first appeared, but it was celebrated on the first Sunday in April. After the collapse of the USSR, the institution began to be called Russian Academy Sci. The holiday continued to be celebrated, but at an unofficial level. And only in 1999, 275 years after the emergence of the Academy, a decree was issued on the introduction official day Russian science.

The Russian Academy of Sciences was founded by the Decree of the progressive sovereign Peter I in 1724 on February 8, who himself studied throughout his life and in every possible way encouraged any undertakings, scientific research and discoveries. Since 1925, the organization began to be called the USSR Academy of Sciences, and since 1991, after the collapse of the union, the Russian Academy of Sciences. Today, progressive figures of the country will celebrate Russian Science Day on February 8. Employees of research institutes of all industries, scientists, leading research activities within the walls of educational institutions - graduate students, candidates and doctors of science.

Why Russian Science Day is important

The development of life is not possible without discoveries. Any household appliance that makes life easier modern man- this is the result scientific research. It is impossible to imagine how our great-grandmothers coped with household chores, having only two hands, a large family and at the same time working in the field, in a factory or in another institution. Thanks to progress, a lot of time has been freed up, which can be devoted to your children, your favorite hobby or sport. People whose activities in our country are related to discoveries and research celebrate Russian Science Day on February 8, 2017. Space exploration, study of the laws of nature, creation of new materials, further improvement of advanced technologies - this is not a complete list scientific directions. Young scientists begin their first steps in graduate school, where, under the guidance of experienced teachers, they conduct research in various branches of science, they write scientific works, defend their candidate's dissertations. Research is being carried out in two directions: theoretical and applied. Scientific research developments are financed by the state, the allocations, unfortunately, are not large enough. However, in Lately the government turned towards scientists. Modern innovation centers began to be built, one of which is Skolkovo, which attracts young talented scientists from all over Russia. Science City promises to become a center where those working in priority sectors of the economy will be provided with all the conditions for the successful implementation of their ideas. The main directions will be the following:

  • biomedical research;
  • telecommunications;
  • space;
  • energy;
  • information Technology;
  • nuclear research.

As a result of the work, Skolkovo is expected to obtain a self-governing, self-developing ecosystem that would contribute to the development of entrepreneurship and the formation of successful companies that are competitive in the global market.

On February 8, Russian Science Day is celebrated not only by scientists, but also by workers who bring creative and innovative ideas to life. After all, only experimentally can the true value of an invention be confirmed. High-precision instruments and equipment used in practice also help achieve the expected results.

How to celebrate Russian Science Day

Employees of educational institutions - professors, academicians, graduate students, employees of research institutions, the Ministry of Education and the Academy of Sciences - gather for the celebrations dedicated to this holiday. The ceremonial meetings, at which all scientists receive congratulations, necessarily include awards; those who distinguished themselves are awarded certificates, titles, valuable and monetary gifts. Grants are available for upcoming important research and development. The best university students are also encouraged, they are awarded personal scholarships, and upon graduation they are invited to graduate schools and the most prestigious scientific institutions.

On Science Day Russian Federation 2017, the top officials of the state invite those who are engaged in creative research to voice their problems and wishes that would contribute to successful work. The most promising employees are invited to the congratulation ceremony at the Kremlin Palace, where they receive government awards, diplomas, honorary titles and talk about their future plans.

Congratulations and speeches are also heard from the radio and television screens on this day scientific workers who talk about their achievements. And of course, festive concerts dedicated to Russian Science Day 2017. Energy workers, physicists, chemists, and astronauts of the country make a worthy contribution to the development of the state’s economy and glorify it on the world stage.

Competitions and scientific projects dedicated to the Day of Russian Science

Education and science are closely related; there can be no science without education, just as education is impossible without science. Therefore, even in schools, particularly inquisitive children begin to engage in research and write their first scientific works. Information in our time is not difficult to obtain - libraries and the Internet contain a large number of works and reports in various areas. And schoolchildren, under the guidance of their teachers, and often receiving advice from teachers of universities where they go to preparatory courses, write interesting creative works in various areas:

  • physics and chemistry;
  • history and natural science;
  • astronomy;
  • literature and art.

An individual approach to the issue and systematization of the received material contribute to the creation of original works. These works are put up for competition, dedicated to the Day science, the commission evaluates them and awards places. The most talented schoolchildren receive benefits for entering a university, or the right to study without entrance exams.

In higher education institutions, the most successful works and original projects put forward for competition are a step towards further employment in the field of science or a step towards obtaining a scientific degree among graduate students.

The Russian Humanitarian Science Foundation (RGNF) has already announced competitions for 2017 in the following areas:

  • history, archeology, ethnography;
  • philosophy, sociology, political science, law, science;
  • economics;
  • philology, art history;
  • global problems and international relations;
  • psychology, pedagogy, ecology.

Competitions are held in several directions: support for young scientists, preparation of popular scientific works, regional and international. Those interested can familiarize themselves with the conditions, deadlines for submitting works and admission rules on the website of the Russian Humanitarian Foundation.

All roads are open to young, capable and persistent people in Russia. Having desire and knowledge, you can confidently walk the path of progress and become a world-famous scientist.
