Han first set his sights on him when he stood with Lando Calrissian on one of the permacrete landing platforms on Nar Shaddaa several years before he joined the Rebel Alliance. And even then the Corellian clearly saw not only what this old, battered freighter was, but also what it could become later.

Like a teenager in love, he couldn't take his eyes off. His pupils dilated and his jaw dropped. Solo tried to pull himself together as quickly as possible before Lando realized what he was thinking and turned away from the ship as if it were old junk. But Calrissian was not a fool, and even from those times he knew all the habits of Khan. Being one of the luckiest players on both sides of Coruscant, he could spot a bluff right away. “Fast car,” Lando noted with a twinkle in his eye.

Khan had no doubt.

Even in those ancient times, Lando had something to envy, and for starters - his exorbitant wealth. But luck had little to do with it. Lando didn't deserve such a ship. He could barely handle a skimmer, let alone a fast-as-light starship that could only be flown by a couple of seasoned pilots. He was completely unworthy of such a flyer.

Khan had never considered himself greedy or envious, but suddenly he wanted this ship more than anything else in his life. For many years he served and wandered around the Galaxy, took risks and lost friends, was loved and abandoned, studied at the Imperial Academy, deceived and himself became a victim of fraud... Perhaps in this ship he saw a chance to start a new life - a life in which he would finally have a place constancy.

Writing circles around the ship, as if in orbit, Khan cherished sinister plans. The old freighter, like a luminary, attracted him, as, without a doubt, it attracted everyone who had flown on it before and put their hand to the contours of these mandibles, the hull and other technological miracles on the skin. He even sniffed its scent through his nostrils.

Looking closely, the Corellian saw almost everywhere traces of attempts to protect the ship from the destructive effects of time and space travel. Dents were straightened out, cracks were filled with epoxytal, and traces of ingrained combustion products on the casing were painted over. “Non-original” spare parts were attached with non-standard fasteners, or even unprofessionally welded to the body. The freighter was stricken with rust, covered in duraste patches, and streaked with leaking grease. He became a veteran even before he came into Lando's possession at the whim of sabacc fortune's shuffling cards. But where and to whom he served, Khan did not know. Bandits, smugglers, pirates, mercenaries... definitely all of them and even more.

When Lando started the engine to check, Han's heart skipped a beat. A minute later, sitting at the control panel, listening to the measured rumble of sublight aircraft, making a dashing turn and scaring Lando almost to death, Han already knew that this ship was his destiny. You can arrange for the Hutts to buy it for Khan, or even simply steal it if necessary. He will install a military-style rectifier antenna and replace the light laser cannon with a quad gun. It will build a retractable rapid-fire blaster under its belly to fight back when escaping. And between the square mandibles he will place a rocket launcher...

He could not even imagine that he would win the ship from Lando at cards. And it certainly never occurred to him that Calrissian would fail on a bluff.

Flying in the modified SoroSuub that he and Chewie had borrowed from Lando, Han only became more incensed in his longing for the freighter. He pictured in his mind the adventures he had experienced from the first day on this world. One day, the Corellian realized that from the very beginning he had become so close to the ship that he did not even ask Lando when and under what circumstances the freighter received the name “Millennium Falcon”...

60 YEARS BEFORE THE BATTLE OF YAVIN

Towards the end of Soli's shift, Kentt did nothing but lazily glance from the chronometer attached to the wall to the HoloNet news channel. Yesterday's shockball match between Kuat and Commenor ended in a draw, but something was not shared between space vagabonds, some Mandalorians. Kentt, a lanky man who settled with his family on Corellia and devoted ten years of his life to his current work at KIK on Orbital-7, lounged in a chair, putting his soft hands behind his head and crossing his legs on the remote control, which was in his undivided possession. On his lap lay an open hololog, and in the glass holders, paired with two empty containers, there was one half-empty one with a cold caf. Behind the transparistal dome that crowned the shimmering observation compartment, a steady stream of fresh, not yet painted IT-1300 freighters was moving - just off the assembly line. They were guided by a flock of orientation buoys, which were subordinated to the station's cybernetic controller.

The IT model, thirty-five meters long and with a lifting capacity of one hundred tons, has been in production for less than a year, but has already established itself as a living classic. Designed with the participation of Narro Sinara, owner of Corellian Engineering's main shipbuilding competitor, the model was positioned as an economical and easily modified alternative to the IS series of rugged freighters. Compared to most KIK starships, which no one would consider sophisticated, the IT-1300 was distinctively functional in style. What made the ship unique was its saucer shape, which made it possible to place many different units, including a remote cabin and sensor matrices. As standard, it was equipped with frontal mandibles and new generation electronics that controlled the ship's powerful sublight engines and hyperdrive.

Kentt had lost count of the items that had passed him since he stepped through the security turnstile at Station Seven at the start of his eight-hour shift, but the number must have been twice that of the previous month. But even with such a rate of production growth, the ships were sold out so quickly that supply could not meet demand. Lowering his feet from the console to the floor, Kentt stretched his arms above his head and was about to yawn sweetly when the console issued a sharp signal, which instantly gave the operator vigor. While Kentt's reddened eyes scanned the numerous screens, a young technician in a colorful jumpsuit and a comlink headset on his head rushed from an adjacent compartment.

Several different models of the Millennium Falcon were used during the creation of the Star Wars trilogy, but the most iconic of them was the one created for the film The Empire Strikes Back. It is recreated to the same scale and equipped with the same external details that you could see on the screen. Millennium Falcon (MillenniumFalcon) is a light cargo ship created by the Corelian Engineering Corporation a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away in the Star Wars universe. It was won in a game of chance by Han Solo and became one of the main ships of the Rebel Alliance.

Story

Initially, the Millennium Falcon was an ordinary serial cargo starship of the YT-1300 type, created in Corelia (not in Karelia, although who knows) 60 years before the events of Episode IV A New Hope.

Due to their lightness, speed and versatility, ships of this type were very popular among smugglers, especially after the collapse of the Republic and the accession of the Galactic Empire.

Somewhere in the 55th year of its life, the ship was won in a game of chance by Lando Calrissian and, a little later, he lost in the same game to the most famous owner of the ship, Han Solo.

Han Solo, together with his assistant, the Wookiee Chewbacca, made many changes to the design of the ship and began to actively work on it, transporting contraband.

In the end, in Solo and Chewbacca, stopping on deserted Tatooine, they met customers in a bar: an old man, a boy and two droids.

Modifications

Han Solo and Lando Calrissian made many modifications to the Millennium Falcon. Calrissian created secret smuggling compartments that were then used by both him and Solo. Calrissian also significantly strengthened the ship's shields.

The Millennium Falcon was covered in duralloy armor on almost every part of the hull, which could withstand blaster hits even with downed shields. The Falcon also had new shield generators installed to withstand laser hits that would destroy a regular YT-1300.

Solo modified the ship so that almost all systems could be accessed from the inside, and only four systems required repair from the outside if they broke down.

The interior decoration of the Falcon left much to be desired - mechanical debris of “all stripes” was lying everywhere. The main "attraction" of the Falcon is the table with Dejarik, installed at the request of Chewbacca. The Falcon often had to fly away from the scene of the “incident” in a hurry. Thanks to its onboard computer, it could enter hyperspace in one minute, while most other ships required at least five. In addition, the upgraded engines were extremely powerful for a ship of such mass - allowing it to fly at 1.5 times the speed of light (1.62 billion km/h).

Exploitation

For 60 years, the Millennium Falcon was a cargo ship and a smuggling ship, but after meeting with Kenobi and Skywalker, the ship and its crew joined the Rebel Alliance.

After this, the ship was actively used by the rebels against the Empire and participated in all the key battles of the Original Star Wars trilogy, as well as in the events of Episode VII.

Creating a ship for the film

According to Star Wars creator George Lucas, the design of the Millennium Falcon was inspired by a hamburger, with the cockpit looking like an olive stuck to the side. The ship originally had a more elongated shape, but due to its resemblance to ships from the science fiction television series Space: 1999, Lucas was asked to change the design.

Model of the ship for the film “Star Wars. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back was created in a hangar owned by Marcon Fabrications in Pembroke Dock in west Wales. After completion of construction, it weighed 25 tons and could only move with the help of pneumatics.

Especially for the filming of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, director J. J. Abrams made a decision: to build the Millennium Falcon spaceship in great detail. The ship was recreated on a 1:1 scale, that is, life-size, and was also fully furnished inside.

Interesting Facts

The Millennium Falcon appears briefly in Episode III "Revenge of the Sith" - at the moment when the ship with the rescued Chancellor lands on Coruscant, the Falcon also lands nearby.

According to the creators of the series FireFly (Firefly), their ship is an ideological copy of the Falcon.

SpaceX's family of transport rockets is called Falcon. The company does not hide the fact that it was named after the Millennium Falcon.

Modified by Han and Chewbacca to their liking. They made many changes to the ship's design, the main one being a military-grade hyperdrive that allows it to reach one and a half times the speed of light.

The YT-1300 model ship was seen during the Clone Wars. Subsequently, Lando Calrissian becomes the owner of a ship of the same class, having won it in sabacc. He didn't know how to fly and hired Han to teach him. During the first training flight, Han developed a desire to get this ship, and he was able to beat Calrissian in a large sabacc tournament on Bespin, and took the Millennium Falcon from him as a win. Already under the current owner of the Millennium Falcon and its pilot, the speed record on the Kessel Arc became famous. Han Solo, as the pilot of this ship, was involved in smuggling (he had to make a hidden compartment below deck especially for this), participated in the attack on Ylesia, helped the rebels in the assault on the first Death Star, participated in a clash with the Ssi-ruuk near the planet Bakura and in the battle at Balancer station, as well as other battles. When piloted by Lando Calrissian, the freighter took part in the attack on the second Death Star and the defense of Nar Shaddaa.
