It was me, Dio! Dio Brando.

It was me, Dio! (Kono Dio Da; It Was Me, Dio; But it's me, Dio)- a memorable quote from the character Dio Brando from the manga and anime JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, used in memes and in bait-and-switch pictures. Appearing in the first episode, "It Was Me, Dio!" considered the very first anime (but not manga) meme.

Origin

A scene in which JoJo's Bizarre Adventure character Dio Brando says, “It was me, Dio!” takes place in the third chapter of the manga and the first episode of the anime, which premiered on October 5, 2012. To deliver JoJo's torment, his rival Dio forcibly kisses his beloved Erina Pendleton, thereby depriving the hero of the opportunity to give her her first kiss.

“Have you and JoJo kissed yet? Not yet, right? Your first kiss is not his! It was me, Dio! ”

The very first known thread to discuss the scene was created on the / a / imageboard of 4chan on October 6, 2012, a day after the premiere.

Posts featuring Dio gained a lot of popularity first on / a / and then on the rest of the site. Typically, a picture with a phrase was used as a way to tease anonymous looking for something with the phrase “you were expecting a link / art / something else, but it was me, Dio!”.

So, on January 24, 2013, a thread appeared on / a / with a frame from the series and a quote from Dio.

Your first kiss isn't JoJo's, / a /. It was me, Dio!

Over time, the meme spread beyond 4chan and penetrated reddit, tumblr, twitter and other social networks. For example, on May 3, 2014, Twitter user @InazumaBuster posted a joke using a macro that got over 700 likes.

You were waiting for a manual with instructions, but it was me, Dio!

On November 16, 2014, user Simon The Digger posted a YouTube remix using the scene that received over 220,000 views.

Meaning

Macro "It was me, Dio!" often used as a bait-and-switch post: instead of the expected response or link, the user is greeted with the phrase “You waited for X, but it was me, Dio!” and a frame from the series. Also, “It was me, Dio!” also used in stand-alone memes, which are usually built in a similar pattern.

In terms of meaning, the picture is similar to JoJo's analogue or Manning's faces, but at the same time it allows you to play up the source material in different ways. For example, Dio's eyes, nose and mouth can overlap the faces of other characters, and the phrase “It was me, Dio!” in such cases, it was replaced by "It was me, [character]!"

The main antagonist of the first and third parts of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The Joestar family's worst enemy. Clever, ruthless, and also has supernatural powers. Grew up in the slums of London, lived practically on the street. Made a living gambling in pubs. Tired of tolerating his alcoholic father, he poisoned him. Joining the Joestar family, he decided to get rid of Jonathan so that the entire inheritance would go to him. In public, he behaves like an exemplary gentleman, but in a rage shows his true "I" - the greedy and cruel type.

When Dio's plan to kill George Joestar failed, he tried to delay his punishment first, begging Jonathan to give him more time. But later he threw himself with a knife at JoJo, whom George protected with his body. After sprinkling blood on the mask, Dio put it on his head and became a vampire. He attacked the police gathered at the estate and killed them. Jonathan entered the battle. During the scuffle, a fire broke out, Jonathan threw Dio from a height onto the spear of the Joestar family statue. However, Dio survived and later recovered his body. He later creates servant vampires for himself who attack Jonathan and his friends. Later, Jonathan still gets to Dio, and a fight ensues. Jonathan manages to hit Dio Hamon, and he falls from the fortress wall. In flight, he tears off his head so that the flame of Hamon does not reach her. Wang Chen sneaks Dio's head onto the ship where Jonathan and Erin are on their honeymoon. Dio tries to take over JoJo's body in order to make him his own. Jonathan, mortally wounded before, grabs DIO's head and disappears with him in the explosion. The remains of the ship are sinking.

(be careful, spoilers)
The overall impression is something absolutely beautiful ... and truly heavenly. And ... very memorable characters. Even those who are served "wholesale" - like the team of mechanics "Sylvanas", for example.
And if in more detail ...

Characters (edit)
I will not talk about the main characters - Klaus and Lavi. A lot has been said about them. I'd rather pay attention to others.
Alex Roe. He seems to be a cold-blooded and calm person. It seems to be. Only in reality - fire under a black cloak, in order to take revenge on the Dolphin, he is ready to sacrifice everything.
An excellent fighter. Great leader. And a very strong person.
But ... sadly, his death is natural. Because Alex lives for revenge - and nothing else is left to him. V Mortal kombat Scorpio chose the same path - but he is a revenant, not dead, and cannot perish. Alex is mortal. And he finds death.
Having reached the goal.

Dolphin. Smart, sophisticated ... and, I think, almost crazy. Reveling in her power, able to order to kill simply out of boredom.
Strange, but I could not determine her age: both in the present and in memories, she looks exactly the same.
"When Mistress Delphine orders, obey immediately." She put this principle at the basis of her whole life, and the guilds do not argue with this. And this is why she is dangerous - when a madwoman has absolutely loyal people under her command, it's creepy.
And yet ... more than deserves such an end. To be proud of her absolute power, to invent sophisticated death for enemies, to play on the nerves of "guests" ... and only in the last seconds realize that all this will not help, that she, the omnipotent sovereign, is powerless against the usual grip of a trained soldier.
It was this before her death in her eyes that got in the way - fear in half with surprise. "How it is? Why? I'm the head of the Guild! I cannot die like this! I can't die at all! "
Maybe. Don't laugh at death - otherwise death will laugh at you.

Sofia. To be honest, at first she did not cause much emotion. A good officer, a normal woman, in love with a commander ... not too original, right?
I took a fresh look when I learned that she was the heir to the throne of Anatole. And it was then that Sofia showed herself to the fullest - she finally began to decide on her own. Not following Alex's orders.
And finally she learned to give tough orders - like shooting at the Urbanus, continuing the flight over the Exile ... The jester knows what kind of empress she will become - especially since the empire is no longer there. But I think the ruler will be good.

Moran Shetland. For some reason, he was practically not mentioned in the topic. And in my opinion, this person deserves attention no less than the others ...
"Let Disith's bullets not touch Moran Shetland's body ... Let Disith's bullets not touch Moran Shetland's body ..."
"Do you know that only thirty percent of the airborne infantry survives?"
Moran found himself among the survivors - and among those rejected by his own army. It turns out to be on "Sylvanas", meets other, dissimilar people, looks at Tatiana ... He meets a girl from Dizit, with whom he shares much more than the others.
And then when it begins last war, recalls that he is an infantryman. That this was exactly what he was taught.
And picks up a rifle.
Moran is not a captain, not a ruler, not even a pilot. An ordinary private, of which there are many. But it is precisely these who decide the outcome of the war - and Shetland proves it. After all, it was he who shot the last guild and prevented the ship's power plant from separating.
Despite the fact that Moran is only "one of many", I remember him very much. Only two of whom below have sunk into the memory more strongly.

Dio and Lussiola. I put them together - because it would be very difficult to talk about them one by one.
Dio is still almost a child. Emotional, stubborn, sometimes capricious, changeable ... Lussiola is always self-possessed, a master of combat, a faithful shadow of "Mr. Dio".
But in some ways Dio is superior to his bodyguard - in the ability to live and enjoy this life. Remember: “Lussiola, if it's tasty, it should be reflected on the face! - On the face? - Yes! ".
Dio knows how to influence others in some way, and unintentionally. Klaus, who at first shied away from him, challenges the Dolphin herself, the mechanics, who looked suspiciously at the guild, are preparing his birthday ...
This, by the way, is one of the brightest scenes with Dio - his birthday, and sincere happiness on his face.
And most of all he was able to influence Lussiola.
Delphine thought that she had assigned the perfect bodyguard to her brother, and so it is. The victory over the Cicada is, you know, a characteristic ... But I did not take into account how his faithful companion would change when communicating with Dio.
Yes, and Dio does not treat him like a servant. When he is being dragged to the “reforging”, whom does he call for help? Lussiola. Completely forgetting that not long ago he received a slap in the face for betrayal.
And in the Grandstream, in the last episode ... What is Dio shouting, rejoicing in victory? Not "I won" at all.
“Lussiola, we have defeated Immelman! We won! ".
"We". So he always perceived - not “here I am, but Lussiola”, but “we”.
And Dolphin naively believed that the faithful bodyguard would dutifully take his place behind the back of Dio-renewed! The very same set the program - to protect Dio ... and did not take into account that the interpretation of the concept of "protect" Lussiola can change independently. The lot of these companions is to await orders or make decisions for the good of their master. But they act - with lightning speed.
So Lussiola - hesitates for a long time between friendship and loyalty to the Dolphin. And having made a decision, he rapidly develops a plan and successfully implements it.
About what Dio remains in the dark for a long time. And only at the peak of joy, turning into an empty seat, he understands.
At this moment, he demolishes all guild mental blocks, everything alien - and Dio freezes, shackled with grief. Until the frenzied wind of the Grand Stream turns the Wanship over.
I'm not a sentimental person at all. Rather, he is inclined to sneer over sentimentality. But the last fight between Lussiola and Dio in the Grandstream - the combination of these two scenes caused me ... some kind of bitterness in my soul. If not more.
It seems to me that if Dio managed to survive the Grand Stream, then Delphine would be very lucky that Alex simply strangled her.

Peace
Waves running through fields of gold? - The breath of spring brings life. The ground covered with wheat. (Second Mysterium)
If what was shown in the last episode is a view of the planet "Exile" from space ... then this is a very peculiar world. In the form of an infinity symbol - and with very different parts.
Green Anatole - and ice-bound Dizit. The boxes of the cruisers of the first - and the rounded outlines of the ships of the second. And between them is a futuristic, highly developed Guild.
But both sides are impressive. The ceremony of the coronation of Sofia ... and the ceremony of the oath in the Guild have sunk into the memory. Very ... thoughtful rituals.

What rests in the depths of memory? - That where it all began, and where everything will return. Blue planet. (Fourth Mysterium)
This statement brings additional color. What happens - the people of this planet have migrated from the Earth? Or ... was it the Earth that took that shape?
Weird. But now it doesn't matter anymore - because this world has become a planet from the “depths of memory”. And I think it will remain so.

The path that leads the angels? - The road of the great winds. Grandstream. (Third Mysterium)
But I have never seen such a phenomenon as the Grand Stream in science fiction. A kingdom of fierce wind that separates the two countries - in which only the mighty cruiser will survive ... or the more durable ships of the Guild.
For most one-ship pilots, Grandstream is synonymous with death and trial. Because crossing it is incredibly dangerous ... but it is also the highest that a pilot can achieve.
Klaus and Rabi were the last ones to do it. Because the Grand Stream is gone, and you can fly as high as you want.

What is beyond the heavens? - That which leads lost children to their mother. Exile.
I think it's worth mentioning this ship itself, right?
Strange, but Exile made me associate with the Strugatsky Wanderers. Something very complicated and completely alien. Unclear purpose, unknown construction.
The answer to what exactly Exile was was never given - despite all the rantings of Dolphin. And it seems to me that she would never have been able to subdue this ancient machine ... if such an association was allowed to me - as Moff Disra could never have controlled Darth Vader.
* thoughtfully * Exile rested in the Grandstream. And he erased it - almost instantly. So wasn't the Grand Stream created with one purpose in mind - to keep Exile in it?

Riddles
As follows from all of the above, I liked the movie.
But there are a few things left for which I could not find an answer.
What are guild fighters like Lussiola and Cicada? Judging by the speed, plasticity of movements and behavior - they are not people, or, at least, not really people.
Klaus left Dio on the bed in Anatola. Where did he suddenly get a Wanship and catch up with them in the Grandstream? Or am I missing something?
Is Moran Shetland dead or not?
And finally - why is such a powerful creature as "Exile" called "The Exile"?

Disk
I have no complaints about The Exile, unlike Stand Alone Complex. The voice acting here, no matter what they say, is of high quality. Alvis's thin voice, Dio's mannered and slightly lazy speech, Tatyana's confident dry tone ... All discs would do that, honestly!
